DIY Decorating Tips For December
With the holidays less than a month away, we’re getting into the holiday spirit, despite the lack of snow. Whether you’re hosting a party or preparing for Santa’s visit, we’re sure your home will look festive for Christmas.
Decorating for the holidays is fun and has a way of stirring up comforting (and hilarious) memories of christmas’ past. We’ve come up with a list of our favourite DIY decorating ideas that are sure to make your home merry and bright this holiday season.
Winter wreaths are a beautiful way to make your front door festive, inviting and welcoming. They are also extremely easy to create.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive alternative to store-bought wreaths, the options are almost endless. Stick to traditional Christmas colours for a more classic look, or add some metallics to give the wreath a bit of sparkle.
If you prefer a more nature-inspired look, try lightly brushing some pinecones in either white or gold paint for a snow-covered inspired look.
If you have some Christmas ornaments you no longer use, you could make an ornament wreath. If your ornaments still have the hook attachment, you can even string them directly on your wire hanger base to help secure them. If seeking a wreath with more body, a glue gun is a simple way to place the bulbs precisely where you want them.
Christmas table centrepieces are often quick, easy crafts that add elegance to your dining area. Gather some spare tealights and burlap from around your house, along with some festive details like faux mistletoe, cranberries, or fir trim.
If you’re looking to draw attention to your dining area, we recommend hanging ornaments from your lighting fixture. This adds festivity to your dining area, while saving space.
Winter and the holidays bring about the desire to be curled up in-front of a blazing warm fireplace, while snow softly falls outside your window. The fireplace is often the focal point of your living room, so accent it with a beautiful garland and stockings.
For a fun pop of colour, try an ornament garland. All you’ll need is a needle and thread. Just like the ornament wreath discussed above, you can use the hook loops already attached to the ornaments to string them together.
If you’re after a contemporary look for your Christmas home decor, we recommend sticking to one colour (like gold, red, or silver) and mixing and matching the ornament finishes. A monochrome ornament garland with sparkly, matte, and reflective ornaments will be an eye-catching addition to your living room.
Garlands can also look beautiful when decorating a staircase railing, or strung across a ledge.
